forgiveness

In the end, this is what it comes down to: choice. The clarity of knowing what you want, the verve to see it through, the willingness to let things go.

A week after I turned 38, we bought a house — a modest apartment with jaunty corners, in a sleepy neighbourhood not serviced by the train. We began paying off the mortgage last month and hope to move in this December.

It is still difficult for me to reconcile a commitment of this magnitude with my life — future, past, here, now. What would my teenage self say? Will we regret this 10 years from now? But when someone asked me recently, are you happy? The answer was very simply, yes. This is where I choose to be. This is how I choose to live. This is the beginning of another turn. Everything else must fall away.
